With Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos making the move to not only bench Russell Wilson for the last 2 games of this NFL season, but to also release him in the offseason, Payton and Denver look to new starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham to step into the starting quarterback role and deliver a spark for this offense, and to potentially be the teams QB1 going forward. So, in todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I do a deep dive into Jarrett Stidham, his career dating back to Auburn, the Patriots and the Raiders, along with his new situation in Denver in order to determine: Can Jarrett Stidham step up and play well for the Denver Broncos against the Chargers and Las Vegas to close the season? How good is Stidham and what’re his strengths and weaknesses as an NFL quarterback? What does his future in Denver look like going forward into 2024? Jarrett was a very high level high school dual threat QB in Texas, and was a highly sought after transfer in 2017 for Auburn. In his first full season as a college football quarterback, he led Auburn to an impressive season, knocking off Alabama and Georgia. He had pretty big hype going into his last college season in 2018, but failed to live up to that hype, causing him to fall into the 4th round of the 2019 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots. Following his Patriot career, Josh McDaniels had Jarrett follow him to Las Vegas, where Stidham had two interesting starts at the end of last season against the 49ers and Chiefs, causing his stock to rise as one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL. This caused the Denver Broncos and new head coach Sean Payton to give Jarrett a 2 year, $10 million dollar deal this offseason, and to give him an opportunity to start the last two games of this season.
