স্কন্দ পুরাণ ও অন্যান নানা পুরাণে যোগিনীদের উল্লেখ পাওয়া যায়। যেখানে তাদের পূর্ণাঙ্গ দেবীর বিভিন্ন দিক রূপে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে। বলা হয়, এই যোগিনী রূপের মাধ্যমেই তিনি পূর্ণতার দিকে যান। চৌষট্টি যোগিনীদের আটটি করে একসঙ্গে নিয়ে অষ্ট মাতৃকা হিসেবে বন্দনা করার রেওয়াজও ভারতের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় রয়েছে। এই ৬৪ টি যোগিনী ত্রিলোকে নিজেদের আদিপত্য বিস্তার করে আছেন। Yoginis are mentioned in Skanda Purana and many other Puranas.
