In this series, I will introduce the sustainability practices in Europe, which may inspire you to adopt similar business models or technologies in your country. The shop demonstrates a good practice of circular economy model. There are coats, shoes, sweathers, trousers, and shirts in the shop. Comparing with people in developed cities of Asia, European people are more open to use second hand stuffs. In a circular economy model, products and materials are reused, repaired, refurbished, and recycled. It's an alternative business model to replace the traditional linear economy. The model involves creating closed-loop systems where products and materials are reused, remanufactured, or recycled to create new products, reducing the need for extracting new resources. It involves the collaboration between parties, industries, and businesses. A circular economy has the potential for various benefits, including reducing environmental impacts, lowering resource consumption, creating new economic opportunities, fostering innovation, and reducing waste generation. 🪡🧶 According to the United Nations Climate Change, the fashion industry contributed to 10% of global carbon emissions in 2018. Also, the industry produces 20% of global wastewater. 85% of textiles end up in landfills or are incinerated when most of these materials could be reused. From Loop Generation, buying one more used item instead of a brand new one this year could save 5.7 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions. Sustainable fashion is a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products, which promotes the use of natural, organic, and eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and recycled fibers. The movement involves reusing and repurposing materials to create new clothing and designs for longevity and recyclability. The products are designed to last longer, be easily repairable, and have their components and materials reused or recycled at the end of life. It's important to ensure that they can re-enter the production cycle. As an individual, we can buy second-hand products instead of new products. Companies should launch a circular economy strategy for their products, from raw materials, product design, manufacturing process, supply chain management, customer care and repair, product reuse, and recycling.
