Discord is preparing to introduce mandatory age verification next month, a major change that will affect how millions of users access the platform’s full range of features and content. The company confirmed that beginning in March 2026, all accounts will be placed into a restricted, teen-appropriate experience by default unless users verify that they are adults. Under the new system, users who do not complete age verification will still be able to use Discord, but with limited access. Age-restricted servers, sensitive channels, and certain communication features will remain unavailable until verification is completed. Discord says the move is designed to better protect younger users while bringing the platform in line with growing global expectations around online child safety. To confirm their age, users will be asked to choose from a set of verification options. These include a facial age estimation process using a short video selfie or submitting a government-issued ID through a third-party verification provider. Discord has stated that facial scans are processed on the user’s device and that identification documents are deleted after verification, emphasizing that it does not intend to store biometric or ID data long-term. The rollout represents one of the most significant policy shifts in Discord’s history. Previously, age gates were largely limited to individual servers or specific types of content. With the new approach, every account will start in a restricted mode, placing the responsibility on users to prove their age if they want unrestricted access to the platform’s communities, media, and features. #Discord #DiscordUpdate #AgeVerification #TechNews #SocialMediaNews #OnlineSafety #DigitalPrivacy #TechUpdates #GamingCommunity #DiscordUsers #InternetSafety #March2026
