It is considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture. Construction Period: The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and was completed in 1653. It took approximately 21 years to build this magnificent structure. Materials Used: The main building material used for the Taj Mahal is white marble, which was brought from the quarries in Makrana, Rajasthan. The marble is known for its pure white color and is considered of high quality. Symmetry and Balance: The Taj Mahal is renowned for its perfect symmetry. The complex is set around a central axis, and the buildings on either side of the main tomb are identical. Inscription on the Gate: Above the main entrance is an inscription in Arabic script that reads, "O Soul, thou art at rest. Return to the Lord at peace with Him, and He at peace with you." Mumtaz Mahal's Tomb: The main purpose of the Taj Mahal is to house the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal. Her cenotaph is placed in the center of the inner chamber, directly under the dome. Shah Jahan's Tomb: Contrary to popular belief, Shah Jahan's tomb is also housed in the Taj Mahal, beside that of Mumtaz Mahal. However, his tomb is smaller and not as elaborately decorated as hers. Minarets: The Taj Mahal is flanked by four tall minarets, each measuring over 40 meters in height. The minarets are not perfectly straight but are slightly tilted outward. This design was intentional to prevent them from collapsing onto the main tomb in the event of an earthquake. Changing Colors: The color of the Taj Mahal can appear to change depending on the time of day. It is said to reflect different hues of pink and orange during sunrise and sunset. World Heritage Site: The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, recognizing its cultural and historical significance. Myth of Construction Workers: Legend has it that Shah Jahan ordered the hands of the workers who built the Taj Mahal to be cut off to ensure that a similar masterpiece could never be created again. However, there is no historical evidence to support this myth. Threats to the Taj Mahal: Pollution and environmental factors, including air pollution and the drying up of the Yamuna River, have posed threats to the Taj Mahal's white marble, leading to conservation efforts. #agratour #agratouristplaces #agraitinerary #placestovisitinagra #agratrip #agratourism #agrafort #tajmahal #mehtabbagh #babytaj #agratourin1day
