Near The Cross-The Argo Singers

Gospel legends the Argo Singers were formed in the late 40's. They were a local group from Chicago and recorded for several labels, the group consisted of five young ladies, and their pianist. As with all gospel groups the personnel changed thru the years. Only one member, Minnie Colbert remained from the very beginning throughout out the changes. The Argo Singers are a tight knit group, the five voices blend gloriously together, and can sound like a full choir at times. Their harmony is impeccable, they exercise great control of the melody and structure of their material. Each individual member is blessed with a good musical ear and a wide vocal range to sound the notes they hear in their hearts. Their performances convey a purity that is refreshing, and a style that is excitingly reminiscent of honest-to-goodness gospel singing.
