Dharmasthala mass graves probe: Investigators use radar tech in Karnataka

The Special Investigation Team probing allegations of multiple bodies buried at different locations in Dharmasthala village, Karnataka, has begun inspections using Ground Penetrating Radar technology. Officials said the method sends radio wave pulses underground to detect subsurface structures. On Monday, accompanied by radar specialists, the SIT reached the 13th site flagged by the complainant, near the Netravati bathing ghat. The exercise aims to verify statements given to investigators. The SIT, formed by the state government, is probing allegations of mass murder, rape, and mass burials in Dharmasthala over the past two decades. The complainant, a former sanitation worker whose identity is protected, alleged that between 1995 and 2014 he was forced to bury multiple bodies, including those of women and minors, some showing signs of sexual assault. He has recorded his testimony before a magistrate. Skeletal remains have already been recovered from two of the identified sites.
