Reporter Jason Beresford spends a week behind bars, with unlimited filming access to life inside Durham Jail - one of Britain's oldest prisons. There's overcrowding, fights, rising suicide rates and drug problems. Yet Durham is amongst the best jails of its kind in the country. Cameras follow officers and inmates as they deal with disruption, but the majority of prisoners have positive things to say about the new regime of putting rehabilitation first and feel happy to take their problems to the staff. And some talk of their hopes of leading a normal life once they're released. Around half of the inmates manage to put their past behind them. The other 50 per cent will find that within two years of walking through the prison doors to the outside world, they'll be walking straight back in.
