New England Gravel Bike Ride: Canadian Border Towns This week we pack up our camping gear, and Buddy to do some bike touring New England style in Pittsburg, New Hampshire. This gravel ride was a 9 hr. mixed bag of terrain from buff back roads, rugged ATV trails, and scenic paved sections. Our New England adventures are always on a budget and we love to repurpose things to suit our needs. We setup Caleb's bike to be a dog bike carrier for our 8lb Morkie, Buddy. With a rack from Topeak, a milkcrate, and a quick trip to the hardware store the salsa journeyman was good to go on a 9 hour ride and camping trip in the most northern town in the state. Pittsburg, NH is a prime example of small town America in New England. The wilderness is pristine and the gravel back roads are serene and endless. The fly fishing is world renowned, and if you want to get the adrenaline flowing there are some serious ATV trails that allow you to get braaapin' in some of the northeast's most remote areas and Bear Rock ATV Adventures is incredibly dialed for exactly that. But the thing they do best is friendliness and awe inspiring nature. Its always the people that really make an area special. Despite the full throttle adventures that can be had, and Nikki and I are no strangers to this as the footage shows in the video(she's a savage with a throttle under her foot), the pace of life up here remains relaxed and patient. We camp at Francis Lake State Park right on the lake. The pride taken in maintaining the park is second to none and again, such a friendly vibe. No ride we take can go without some sort of food stops being involved, even after the first 4 miles we stop at Green Acres Country Store, a café serving up all homemade items such as breakfast pizza, English muffins from scratch and so much else. The garden is right out back that items are made from and the best part...its right along one of the best gravel ride routes in the area. Load up on coffee, fill your stomach, and head out into a wilderness free of cars and full of peaceful nature. Well, as the video shows you might run into a friendly excavation worker maintaining these beautiful backcountry roads. We ended up briefly on one of the ATV trails and although its drool worthy terrain and cool to see this culture in action, we recommend sticking to the back roads or snowmobile trails that aren't for ATV use. Once you get a hunger built back up you can emerge from the wilderness and ride right up to the Buck Rub Pub, a staple in the area with killer food to satisfy any appetite, even ours. Its a cool scene to see the ATV riders pull right up to the Pub and enjoy the same atmosphere we were. The staff is always friendly and they let buddy hang out on the deck and charged up our gopro for us while we devoured the biggest plate of nachos we've ever seen. With full bellies and full charge we were able to share some more scenery and a couple awesome lakes as well as one of their designated fly fishing areas for a quick cool off along the river. We head back to camp on one of the most beautiful gravel roads where the wilderness meets the farmland and call it a day. We always find ourselves in a state of elation when returning after a long excursion as the sun is setting over our beautiful state. Its moments like these that i feel so privledged to be able to share our simple mountain life with you and grateful for this existence on this amazing planet we all call home. Thanks so much for your support and everyone that's subscribed, liked, and shared. I feel like we are growing this thing together and thats what i wanted out of this from the beginning. So please let us know what you'd like to see more of, we are always open to any type of activity and even meeting with you in our travels to share something you love to do because like I said above...its the people.
