Allegany Preservation Society Limited, in collaboration with renowned Author and Historian, Titus Swan, are pleased to release the revamped and highly anticipated release of “An Apparatus For Lunacy - A History of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum”. The original version of this Documentary was released on October 31st, 2024 without any outside financial assistance, while maintaining the intention of covering 130+ years of Asylum related history in under 30 minutes. That tall order was filled, staying away from most “inaccuracies surrounding Hollywood”, however, the final product was missing additional and pertinent information, lasting only 20+ minutes. After months of additional research and filming, APSL finished a “Rough Cut” of what another new version was supposed to encompass before being contacted by Titus Swan in January 2025. Thanks to his efforts for our organization, along with APSL’s experience in video production, we now have what can be described as “one of the most inclusive video documentaries about the true history of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum”, with more content following in the future. We hope you enjoy the video and if you like what you see, consider making a donation to the West Virginia State Hospital Initiative (WVSHI) and help support “Project Dignity”. The West Virginia State Hospital Initiative (WVSHI Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of West Virginia's state hospitals and advancing mental health care reform, with its branch, Riverstone Community Services, focusing on community impact through scholarships, essential needs assistance, and outpatient clinic development.
