From the Seattle Folklore Society's "Fiddlers Showcase" concert featuring Pacific Northwest fiddlers, January 25, 2014. Jamie Fox is a noted Metis style fiddler. The Metis are the descendants of Europeans, primarily French, and Native Americans, going back to at least the 17th Century when French Jesuit missionaries introduced fiddling and dancing, largely from Scotland and Ireland, to the American tribes to help chase out their native religion. She was raised on the Fort Belknap Reservation in central Montana. Presently, she is in the U.S. Air Force, living in Olympia, WA. She performs with her father and brother as the "Fox Family," which has played at many traditional arts festivals. This tune is a traditional Metis square dance tune played in cross tuning. She is backed up by Vivian Williams, piano, and Phil Williams, guitar. Video by Phil Williams. www.voyagerrecords.com
