#diyhaircut #homehaircut #clippercut Just wanting to know how to cut your own hair at home? This video will show you how you can do it yourself. I learned to cut hair as a teenager. I just wanted my own look, and didn’t like how many times I was dissatisfied with my haircut cause I felt the stylist didn’t get me, or misunderstood what I wanted and would end up cutting it too short, or make me look dorky and I just hated it. I bought clippers when I was 12, and just started doing it on my own. Back in those days, I was kinda a little skate punk and just shaved my hair on the sides and back, and the top would be long and bleached platinum, which I also did myself with just a drug store hair dye kit. Now as an adult, I’ve been lucky enough to have found a couple stylists that consistently give me a great cut every time. But during this Coronavirus outbreak the hair salon is closed so I had to whip out some clippers and do it myself again. It’s a scary thing to do at first, but you’re in luck if you’re a guy cause it’s much simpler if you have a short haircut. The trick is to go very slow, and cut only a tiny bit off at a time. Remember, you can always go shorter, but not the other way around. Also, if you mess up, you can fix it by gradually balancing things out. The first thing you want to do is buy a clipper kit (with attachments for different lengths). These can be easily found at the local drug store like a CVS, or Rite Aid. A brand I trust is Wahl and is usually a good choice. The next thing to know is that the attachments all have numbers on them. Here in this video, I use a #4 which is my go-to length, but sometimes I go shorter or longer depending on my mood. You want to start off with the biggest number you feel would be the right length if you don’t know your go-to number already. Experiment with it starting on the side of your hair, as this is the easiest area to see and work on. For example, you might use a #6 and then decide it’s too long. Try a #5, etc., and go lower from there until you get the result you want. Then cut the sides of your hair first. For the back, I usually go with the same length. Here in this video, I use a number four in back, but “flick” it out so that it leaves the top area longer. This gives a nice shape to the cut. Then I use a longer attachment, a #6 to cut the upper back of my hair. To finish, I use a shorter attachment on the bottom back, a #2 to make it look cleaner, and neater. And lastly I very slowly, and carefully create a straight line across the back, and clean up the edges of my hair. This is the trickiest part. You want to have a steady hand. If not, you can skip that part, and your hair will still look pretty good. You can see the gradual result in the video. For the top, I use a comb to straighten the hair, then hold the hair between my fingers, going in a straight line from the front to the back, starting with the bangs as shown in the video. I’m merely trimming the tips, which if done slowly and carefully, you won’t mess up much or at all. Just follow the same lines that your stylist cut. Once again to recap, for my cut I used: Clippers by Wahl #6 attachment for top of hair in back #4 attachment for the sides and bottom of hair in back #2 to tighten the lower back (can be used for side burns too, but I didn’t do that for this cut) You can find me on Instagram @kendubois If you like this video, please SHARE it, and subscribe to my channel ☺
