Rare WWII film shot by the crew of the submarine, USS Pintado, during patrols in the Pacific between March and July 1945. It includes complete footage of the Pintado's historic air/sea rescue of 12 B-29 crew off the coast of Japan. I was given the film by a survivor of that rescue, gunner Richard Vanden Heuvel. When he offered it to me in 2011, I thought I was just getting the rescue clip. Instead, the video he had also contained color scenes from two patrols by Pintado. Rescued B-29 crew are identified here by two survivors. I researched the rest of the footage which wasn't completed until I was able to get the Pintado's logs in 2019. The story offers a look at the close relationship between the WWII Army Air Force crews and the Navy during the war with Japan.
