What is distinct about colonialism from a Marxist point of view? In this session, we discuss how Mahdi Amel theorizes the colonial mode of production as a clash between two modes of production, resulting in a fusion that creates a new mode of production that is distinct to the colonial social structure and society. In isolating this new colonial mode of production, Amel formulates a practice of liberation and revolution. It is important that we remember that revolution, in the scientific, Marxist sense, is a transition from one mode of production to another, i.e. from one social structure to another. The essay we are reading is entitled "On the Colonial Mode of Production" and it can be found in Arab Marxism and National Liberation: Selected Writings of Mahdi Amel by Mahdi Amel, Edited by Hicham Safieddine, Translated by Angela Giordani and with a Foreword by Gilbert Achcar (https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/....
