In 2022, the International Law Commission (ILC) began its work on the topic Settlement of disputes to which international organizations are parties. The ILC has since made considerable progress towards the development of guidelines on this topic that inter alia address the definition of key concepts such as "international organization", "dispute", and "dispute settlement" as well as the resort to and accessibility of means of dispute settlement in the context of disputes between international organizations, between international organizations and States, and between international organizations and private parties. In this interview-style online conversation, Professor August Reinisch, who serves as the ILC Special Rapporteur on this topic, will discuss the ILC's ongoing work on this topic, exploring why this topic was selected, areas that have been of particular debate or interest, the next steps in the work of the ILC, and the broader implications that the ILC's work may have for international dispute settlement. Speaker: August Reinisch, Professor, University of Vienna Moderator: Ashwita Ambast, Senior Legal Counsel, Permanent Court of Arbitration Co-sponsored by the International Organizations Interest Group and the International Courts and Tribunals Interest Group of the American Society of International Law
