‘That They May Be One’: Archbishop Sample on Unity, Mission, and Overcoming Division

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his episcopal ordination, Archbishop Sample renewed his call to the faithful and clergy to live in unity with one another, with their pastors, and with their bishop, so that together they may proclaim and spread the Gospel. He recalled Christ’s prayer at the Last Supper, offered on the night before His Passion, “that they may be one.” He emphasized that the mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ boldly, confidently, and with love. This mission is lived through the witness of daily life by remaining rooted in Christ, seeking reconciliation, and allowing charity and humility to guide relationships within the Church. Reflecting on the spiritual hunger of the world, Archbishop Sample noted that many have come to recognize the emptiness of life without God and are ready to receive the Gospel. United in Christ, he encouraged Catholics everywhere to bring Jesus to a world in need of hope and truth.
