President Donald Trump announced on social media Friday that he'll meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next week as he pushes for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump posted on Truth Social: "The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump also previously agreed to meet with Putin even if the Russian leader would not meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Putin’s last visit to the U.S. was in 2015, when he attended the U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York. He last met with Trump in 2019 in Japan.
