Spring 2019 Evening Lecture Series: Frederick Ilchman "Tintoretto 500: Exhibiting a Renaissance Painter Today," recorded on February 6, 2019. Frederick Ilchman is Chair of the Art of Europe department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He is also the Chairman of Save Venice, an American non-profit dedicated to restoring art and architecture in Venice. With Robert Echols, Ilchman is co-curator of the upcoming exhibition Tintoretto: Artist of Renaissance Venice at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. A specialist in the art of the Italian Renaissance, Ilchman was lead curator for Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese: Rivals in Renaissance Venice (2009) at the MFA and the Louvre, and co-curator for Casanova’s Europe (2017-18) at the MFA, Kimbell, and Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. This lecture is offered in conjunction with Tintoretto: Artist of Renaissance Venice, on view at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. from March 10 to July 7, 2019.
