The Power of Love as the Foundation of Community & Social Justice with Molly Cotner What if love isn’t just an emotion but a radical force for building stronger, more just communities? The missing piece in transforming the world we live in. The Dig featured sociologist, journalist, and activist Molly Cotner for an inspiring and thought-provoking talk on the power of love as the foundation for community and social justice. Drawing from a wide range of influences and her own experiences as a researcher, educator, and writer, Molly will explore: How love, as a practice, is the foundation for meaningful connection and community Why storytelling is an essential tool for justice and collective action The role of love and narrative in building movements for social change All with a little humor and tears thrown in for good measure Through real-world examples, powerful narratives, and a call to action, this talk will challenge you to rethink the way you engage with your community. Love is not passive—it is revolutionary. And in a world where human rights are being stripped away, this work has never been more urgent! About Molly Molly Cotner is a sociologist, journalist, and activist. She holds an MA in Sociology from UCCS and an MA in Journalism from NYU. Her work focuses on dismantling oppressive systems and advancing social justice. Academically, her expertise includes critical race theory, gender studies, feminist and women’s studies, and popular culture studies. Beyond the classroom, Molly is deeply involved in community engagement initiatives. As an activist, mentor, and educator, she has worked with students, community leaders, and organizations to foster inclusive, justice-oriented spaces. As a freelance journalist at the Pueblo Star Journal, she covers stories that amplify community voices and explore the human experience in all its complexity. Her commitment to advocacy is both professional and deeply personal. She is a proud mother, a dedicated sister, a constant headache as a daughter, and an occasional nuisance to her partner. Special thanks to Colorado Housing & Finance Authority (CHFA), The City of Pueblo, and the Senate Bar for their generous support. Next up in the lineup is Javier Quinones.
