Border Patrol agents are expected to arrive in New Orleans as part of a Department of Homeland Security enforcement surge expanding to major U.S. cities. The deployment follows recent operations in Charlotte, Washington D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles. Local law enforcement agencies in the New Orleans metro area have started coordinating with federal authorities. Kenner Police confirmed they recently assisted ICE in a raid operation at the city’s boat launch. Immigration attorney Glenn Wasserstein called the upcoming presence “not a normal thing,” saying the scale of Border Patrol deployments into major cities is unprecedented. He has been advising local businesses about what federal agents can and cannot access without a judicial warrant. Wasserstein said agents may enter public areas of a business but cannot search private employee spaces or non-public areas without a judge-signed warrant. In other cities, he said Border Patrol agents have used intimidating tactics while attempting to enter private property.
