Between 5-7 p.m., arrivals and subsequent departures at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho, signal the homecoming of local residents, and the arrival of out-of-towners to this comfortable city in the Mountain West. We captured those airliner movements on a September afternoon that had some spectacular clouds rendering bright sun and subdued shadow. Watch for the PSA 737's shadow to pass quickly over the dust cloud raised by another aircraft on takeoff. Count three of Alaska's Bombardier Q400 aircraft painted in college colors. This video was made with the Sony FDR-AX53 video camera and a Rode VideoMic. We're overwhelmingly happy with the quality of both, although the camera, in our opinion, occasionally suffers from losing focus and needing a lot of time to refocus on a moving aircraft (with the current 1.01 download update). We shot this at 1080P, 120fps, and played with the video in post production (Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 13), including slo-mo at times, and adjustments to the exposure and image quality. We digitally enlarged the 737 touchdown scene. The Rode VideoMic delivers a strong signal, making audio files easy to work with. The folks at Rode deserve kudos for their great sense of customer service. When the VideoMic had a mechanical problem due to our error, not Rode's, the company was very helpful and proactive to fix it. Thanks, Rode! We purchased our equipment on the market and did not receive any support from the manufacturers or merchants.
