We will be joined by ‪@JoelDouekMusic‬ , co-founder of EccoVR who worked on Justin Timberlake's Holodome and DJ Steve Aoki’s Oculus Quest projects, and Chris Currell who developed his Virtual Audio Processing for Tokyo DisneySea and the Currell Effect. Also attending this panel is Geoffrey Low, of ‪@Dolby‬ Singapore. 3:00 I say hi & perform live for you. 14:00 WE welcome in our guests and share a bit of history of VR - my visit to CyberArts in 1991, where Chris Currell also presented his Virtual Audio Processing system. Also about the implementation of his VAPS for Tokyo DisneySea's Indiana Jones ride where a quad system was used to reproduce the binaural mix. 27:07 Chris mentions how realism is affected by quality of the playback system. The HW system he used. And the naysayers. 32:31 Using VAPS on Chage & Aska's Live UFO '93 concert; a Japanese duo with 31 million sales of albums and singles. 36:12 I ask all three why they felt it was necessary to have a surround setup to experience immersive, if a binaural playback (quad) effectively gave them pseudo 3D. Chris tackles the emotional experience gotten from an immersive experience. 38:13 Joel responds to "why more speakers than quad?" "The more resolution the better acuity that can be experienced." 39:44 Geoffrey responds to having to set up speakers for spatial mixing for maximum effect. And he provides an anecdote on how spatial relates to realism in the realm of sound. 41:35 Joel responds to Chris' research of how "people who have experienced spatial audio have as much as 10 times the emotional effect". 42:23 *Chris expounds on the important concept of "selective hearing mechanism". And its implications on Music Therapy - how to be on the side of the client to get them on your side. Joel recommends the use of isochronic and binaural beats, and biophilic effects in a binaural environment (head-tracking experience, rather than head-locked to simulate real-life). 1:14:00 We look at Under The Canopy, an Immersive project developed for Conservation International where Joel discovered that nature had its own tuning of 432hz. I asked about the equipment used. 1:26:00 1st order ambisonics - the way this project was delivered, and its limitations thanks to selective hearing. Yet "sound is our true 360 sense", and regarded as our survival sense. 1:30:00 We have the tech where is the content? How do we compose from ground up for immersive audio? Chris mentions the "lo-res" experience. 1:33:45 The idea of architecture build from sound bricks such that the experience is different in each doorway, room etc. The WaveField System (spatial audio rendering technique, characterized by creation of virtual acoustic environments) is mentioned. 1:39:00 Chris separates physical (speakers) to meta physical (speaker + headphone) experience. 1:41:00 Question for Geoffrey about live broadcast surround vs post-pro. Activities such as sporting events enable their viewers to experience being present in more ways than one. What is the infrastructure to enable the immersive experience?
