Efforts are being made to identify the errant vehicle and arrest the driver, senior police officers said. The two men who died in the accident were identified as Vinod Kumar and Krishan Solanki. Nitin, Jitender and Karan Bhardwaj sustained injuries. The accident took place around 2.50 am on a road that stretches from Dhaula Kuan towards Gurgaon. "A police team that reached the spot found a Mercedes car in damaged condition. All the injured were rushed to a hospital where Vinod Kumar and Krishan Solanki were declared dead while Nitin, Jitender and Karan Bhardwaj are under treatment. The two bodies were moved to a mortuary. Their families were informed and a case was registered at the Delhi Cantonment police station," said a senior police officer. During inquiry, police found that all five are the residents of Palam village in southwest Delhi. "They were all returning home after attending a marriage function in Faridabad. The car belonged to Kumar and he was driving the vehicle. They all were friends. A case has been registered to further probe the accident," said deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Gaurav Sharma. Police teams are also checking CCTV footage to identify and trace the offending vehicle, the DCP said. According to police, the medical report will ascertain whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. However, no proof of drunken driving was received so far. The car rammed a moving truck, police said, adding that they were also checking if the car was speeding at the time of the accident.
