In 1999, Thrasher Presents Skate and Destroy tried to bring true skateboarding realism to console. Around the same time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater had changed everything. Developed by Z-Axis and published by Rockstar Games, it focused on grounded physics, a steep learning curve, and pure street skating attitude. In this retrospective, I take a deep dive into Skate and Destroy’s gameplay, controls, soundtrack, and legacy, exploring how it quietly laid the groundwork for future skate sims like EA’s Skate, Session, and Skater XL. Was it a brilliant sim overshadowed by its flashier rival, or did it bail on its first run and end up in Thrasher’s Hall of Meat? 00:00 Intro 00:56 Part 1: Keeping It Real (Background) 03:16 Part 2: Learning The Hard Way (Gameplay/Visuals) 07:26 Part 3: Concrete Jungle (Level Design) 09:24 Part 4: Flow State (Soundtrack) 11:56 Part 5: Ahead of Its Time (Legacy/Outro) --- Video Credits @ThrasherMag ‘Titi Gormit's "Hideout" Part’ • Titi Gormit's "Hideout" Part ‘Hall of Meat: Chase Webb’ • Hall Of Meat: Chase Webb ‘Classics: Eric Koston Mouse’ • Classics: Eric Koston Mouse --- Join this channel to become a member with some perks: 🔗 / @onehipgamer You can also support me on Ko-Fi here: 🔗https://ko-fi.com/onehip [AFFILIATE] I buy my own PC games from Fanatical, and you can too with legally sourced Steam keys at discounted prices.
