It never occurred to me to step into the world of fish. Yet my love for seafood began early on, almost without me noticing. While cooking in Parisian kitchens, that love quietly grew. I carried it with me to Amsterdam, where I opened a fish shop, still unaware of what that decision would come to mean. For me, cooking and eating fish felt natural, almost innocent. That assumption didn’t last. Over time, I discovered that behind this apparent simplicity lies a complex and hidden world. A world marked by imbalance, by practices that put our oceans under growing pressure, and by overfishing in far too many places. I felt things had to change. As I traveled and listened to the stories of fishermen and fishing communities around the world, my view of what was on my plate began to shift. What started as curiosity turned quickly into responsibility. More than 11 years ago, that journey came together in Fish Tales. Not as a master plan, but as a natural result of what we had seen and felt. A personal mission became a company, a seafood brand that helps people make conscious choices, so future generations can continue to enjoy fish. I’m proud of what we’ve built so far, but we still have a long way to go. Caring for our oceans is something we must do every single day. It matters more than ever.
