Xiao Chou 消愁 Drown One's Sorrows | 毛不易 Mao BuYi - Chinese, Pinyin & English Translation 歌词英文翻译

Hi, here are some references and elaborations :) 01:05 敬 - I translated this as 'toast', but it's a bit different from say... a wedding toast. 敬 literally means 'respect' and (in modern times) is generally not directed at a person unless in a formal situation. It's more of lifting a glass/ cup to pay respects rather than the western act of giving a toast which seems to almost include giving a mini speech. Like the thought of friends and family lifting their glass and not being able to eat until you finish talking... is not something that many deem appropriate. Of course toasts are practiced, it's just not common among friends and family. More often one would 敬 the heavens, earth, the moon etc. 01:18 心头有雨 (rain in the heart) - the heart is unhappy 眼底有霜 (frost beneath the eyes) - there are tears within the eyes Rain and frost are used to represent the suffering and pain experienced. 02:01 座上客 describes the guest that is warmly received by the host. A metaphor for respected people. 02:05 自以为是 is an idiom that refers to one's own belief that one is right and describes an arrogant attitude. 03:07 山高水长 is an idiom that literally means 'high mountains, long rivers/ water'. Originally, it meant that the demeanour or reputation of a person will last forever like the mountains and rivers. It's later used to refer to great kindness and noble character. 03:12 人生苦短 can actually be translated with 'bitter' as an adjective of 'lifetime' or 'short'; 'a lifetime is bitterly short' or 'a lifetime is bitter and short'. 人 = person, people 生 = life, lifetime 苦 = bitter, painful, miserable 短 = short 03:12 念念不忘 is an idiom which means to keep (something) in mind, never forgetting. 歌曲原唱: 毛不易 填词: 毛不易 谱曲: 毛不易 编曲: 郑楠(live版)、赵兆(正式版)
