1977 Choir Boys Leaving Ceremony - recording from live radio broadcast. Organist / Choir Master - Dr Philip Marshall Assistant Organist - Roger Bryan Precentor - Canon David Rutter Dean - The Very Reverend the Honourable Oliver William Twistleton Wykeham Fiennes Treble solo - W. J. P. Mollett (aged 12) Quite a lot of hiss; recording taken from a Phillips compact cassette. Low 32' pedal note from 1.07 until 2.12 (i.e. not tape rumble.) Sung at a snappier pace than most other performances (and less laboured for it) but no less haunting. The portly Precentor (Canon Rutter) rarely sang in tune to the extreme frustration of the organist (Dr Philip Marshall) who would re-join the Precentor after several minutes of unaccompanied litany to find him ending in a different key while the choir stood wincing. Usually the clergy and choir outnumbered the congregation 4:1 at evensong especially in January/February when you could see your breath.
