Older deadbolts were built very differently than modern locks, and sometimes those differences allow locksmiths to open them in ways that newer locks prevent. In this video I show how a 1960s Weiser deadbolt can be opened by shimming the lock without the key. These older designs use internal components that allow a thin shim to bypass the locking mechanism and retract the bolt. While working on this lock, I also explain why some older deadbolts had a screw on the outside of the door, which was a common design decades ago but is rarely seen on modern residential locks. This video gives a close look at the internal design of a vintage deadbolt and demonstrates a locksmith technique used to open certain older locks without destructive entry. Real locksmith work. Real locksmith education. Locksmith Blueprint documents real field work from a working locksmith so people can understand how locks actually function in the real world.
