Ambassador Khayyam Akbar delivered a presentation on the significance of South Asia in the global context, highlighting the region's lack of integration. He addressed both the challenges and opportunities that South Asia faces in terms of integration. According to him, the primary issue is the lack of political will, which can be addressed through well-designed foreign policy. If political will is present, fostering economic integration can create further opportunities for multilateral collaboration. He emphasized that after achieving economic integration, cultural integration—particularly people-to-people connections—is essential. Following the event, there was an intensive Q&A session that delved deeper into South Asian integration from a foreign policy perspective, emphasizing other critical areas of concern. In this session, he further discussed the rivalry between India and Pakistan, which is another primary reason for the poor integration in South Asia.
