On vocals, Erik Grönwall (ex-Skid Row), one of the most powerful voices in contemporary rock, shines, with special appearances by Robin McAuley, Dimitri "Lia" Liapakis, and producer Michael Voss, adding layers of nostalgia and freshness. With 11 tracks, Don't Sell Your Soul is an urgent and uncompromising dive into MSG's classic sound, blending the rhythmic gallop of the '70s with '80s arena rock vibes and modern power metal touches. The opening title track, with its five-minute intensity, sets the tone: flaming riffs, layered vocals, and impeccable melodic solos from Schenker, which sound precise and urgent, as if he were playing with his soul exposed – true to the title, which reflects his life motto since he first picked up the guitar at age 11. Highlights include "Janey the Fox," a viscous and groovy track with a bass and synth intro, surf rock chords, and a 7/8 groove that flows into a catchy chorus, culminating in a textural and melodic solo; "I Can't Stand Waiting," an eighties anthem with an epic chorus that evokes Europe and UFO, driven by a wall of vocals and subtle guitar details, and "Danger Zone," which maintains momentum with Grönwall's solo vocals and riffs that capture the essence of rock gold. Without fluff or filler, the album gets straight to the point: concise tracks, solos balanced between melody and virtuosity, and a production that honors the past without sounding dated.
