Nest boxes can do more than provide homes for wildlife - when they’re designed properly, they can solve two problems at once. In this video, Joel Ashton from Wild Your Garden explains how thoughtfully made nest boxes help birds, bats and other wildlife by: Replacing lost natural nesting sites and removing dangerous waste from the environment by turning it into long-lasting habitat Many birds today are forced to use twine, plastic and other litter in their nests - not because it’s good for them, but because it’s everywhere. At the same time, mature trees, cavities and scrub are disappearing from our landscapes. The nest boxes shown here are made using recycled farm plastics - including baler twine and agricultural waste - combined with FSC® certified recycled timber inside. That means materials that could cause harm in the environment are instead locked safely into vital wildlife homes for decades. In this film, Joel talks through: Why nest box design and materials really matter How these boxes help wildlife twice How gardeners can make better choices for birds and wildlife at home This isn’t about perfection or buying more things. It’s about giving wildlife better options - and creating gardens that truly function as sanctuaries. 🌿 About Wild Your Garden Wild Your Garden helps people create gardens that support wildlife properly, through habitat, planting, and responsible, seasonal feeding.
