Needle thinning, decandling and bud pruning of black pine ◆Neddle thinning Removal of old needles is one important point when creating black pine. Along with aiding the appreciation of short new needles, the task also serves the purpose of improving air circulation and light penetration to the inner branches, as well as fostering buds and branches near the trunk. ◆Pruning Along with bud pruning, black pine branch cultivation centers on care such as pruning, needles thinning, and wiring. In particular, the effect of pruning( cutting back branches) is high, and its purpose goes beyond the regulation of disarrayed branches. In the case of a tree with a severe lack of foliage near the trunk, it is very important to prune it to suppress the strong buds on the extremities. Although needle thinning provides quite good control, pruning the reduces needles and branches at the same time will provide even greater effects. ◆Bud pruning Bud pruning is used to create the branch foundation. This kind of bud pruning is carried out all at once, mostly targeting the strong buds. As the branch training stage progresses, the number of buds to be pruned also increases.
