When you buy an old film camera, can you really trust its shutter speeds? Over time, mechanical shutters drift out of spec, leading to underexposed or overexposed shots. I’ve tried testing them myself—with limited success—but now I’ve found a device that does it perfectly. In this video, I demonstrate a camera shutter tester made by a creator in Romania, showing how it works on three classic film cameras: Rollei 35, Mamiya 6, and Mamiya C220. I also walk through how to calculate F-stop errors using a spreadsheet so you can compensate for inaccurate shutter speeds when shooting film. Note: The VFMoto tester I use has many features beyond leaf shutters, but I have only used it on my leaf shutter cameras up to this point, so I don't go into the other features. 00:00 - Introduction 02:00 - Some background for the problem 06:12 - Demo of using device with three cameras 15:29 - Calculating true F-stop error 18:48 - Free 3D model for light-source lens caps 20:05 - Wrapup Shutter tester on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/usr/vfmoto Printables page with 3D models for the light source holder: https://www.printables.com/model/1204...
