Its our first day in Italy and we head straight to Bardolino. What a superb location! Its accessible by train and bus and its a 30 minute and 31 km drive from Verona Airport. We stayed in Hotel Du Lac et Bellevue, 800m or a 10 minute walk from the centre of town. That walk was a bit of a killer, especially in the late afternoons as average temperatures at the time in July were around 36c - 39c. Damn hot with a high level of humidity. It we were to travel in Italy again it would be in May or September when it should be much cooler but still great for touring around. So instead we braved the very hot conditions and has a siesta and swim in the hotel pool almost every afternoon. Bardolino sits on the Western shore of Lago di Garda, formed by a glacier 1.5 millions years ago. It's the largest freshwater lake in Italy. Bardolino was first inhabited in the Bronze Age and then taken over by the Ancient Romans. The name means "Lombard's small house". The modern city was founded in the middle ages in 568. It was an autonomous city until 1405 when the Venevicans conquered it. It was briefly held by Napoleon, then the Austrians and in 1866 became part of the Italian Republic. Its a holiday resort that caters well for tourists. There are many great hotel in and around the town. Dress is casual at most times except dinner - One has to dress a bit smartly for dinner in Italy! It's a great location to be based whilst exploring Lago di Garda, with ealy car and ferry access to all major towns along the shore of the lake. Things to do include: Drive around the beautiful shoreline Catch a ferry Shop Eat at a great restaurant, have a gelato or grab a great coffee Swim in the lake and sunbathe walk through the old town's street' Take a picture on the Marina, especially at sunset Visit the Church of San Severo Our best meals that catered very well for Gluten Free and Vegetarian needs, and I can highly recommend are: Minus - Serving fine food and great wine' Divino - A great rooftop dining area that serve great pizzas Links: www.lago-di-garda.org/bardolino-lake-garda.asp www.lakegardatravel.net/bardolino-italy Link to my Instagram page.... www.instagram.com/maximos_travels Music: Uplifting - Music by https://www.free-stock-music.com Drone Video by Marian Croitoru: www.pexels.com/video/drone-footage-of-a-sailboat-in-lake-garda-11240195/ Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 00:21 Map 00:56 Shore 04:25 Old Town walking Tour 06:42 Church of San Nicolo & San Severo 07:36 Old Town walking Tour II 10:44 Marina & Sunset 13:02 Eating in Bardolinoi 13:31 Summary & Outro
