The Bold Dream: Transcending the Impossible

What happens when Rhodes Scholars come to study at Oxford? In addition to postgraduate study at one of the leading universities in the world, many Scholars form deep personal connections that last a lifetime. When different people come together in a shared spirit, exciting new things begin - that's why so many impactful and progressive collaborations have started in the Rhodes community. Rhodes Scholars, Dr Elisha Ngetich and Dr Gladys Ngetich, met at Oxford and became lifelong friends. In 2020 they published their book, The Bold Dream: Transcending the Impossible, which explores the challenges they faced while growing up, traverses how they ended up in one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world, and aims to inspire others on their academic journeys. Most importantly, they share deep, thought-provoking views on the sacrifices that women in their community make, through the experiences of their mothers. The Rhodes Trust has been bringing people of good character from around the world together for over a century.
