Rear Door Removal | Volkswagen® Jetta - Golf 1985 to 1991 VW MK2 | Joe Fixes It I have been working on these cars as a hobby and driving them since 2003. The Engine transaxle units for these are have changed very little since the early 1970s since the advent of the VW rabbit otherwise known as the MK1 or mark I version. In 1985 Volkswagen came out with the MK2 otherwise known as the Mark II. The production run ran from 1985 through 1992 for the MK2 versions. The main body parts are interchangeable through most body styles and engine versions (diesel and gasoline). The Diesel engine transaxle units are bullet proof and last for a very long time. However the body components are really nothing special and were not designed to last forever. I know this is a simple job, but today I am going to show you how to remove and reinstall a rear door on a 1986 VW Jetta Diesel. It is pretty straight forward and easy to do. The rabbit’s aka MK1 cars were a lot more trouble to remove and replace and they had to be adjusted after putting the door back on. The MK2 cars have no such problem.
