Según la leyenda, durante una procesión en la Roma castigada por la peste, el papa Gregorio Magno (+604) escuchó las tres primeras estrofas añadiendo él mismo la estrofa final. Schola Antiqua interpreta hoy una melodía de este Regina caeli que figura ya en los primeros testimonios de canto gregoriano copiados en la Península y cuya sonoridad propia ha perdurado hasta nuestros días, gracias a aquellos compositores anónimos hispanos que no siempre aceptaban las melodías romanas. -- Regina cæli, lætare, alleluia.
