Evelyn Schlenker, Secretary of the Clay County Historic Preservation Commission, represented the Commission in the presentation of the 2025 Historic Preservation Awards, which are evidence of the Commission's mission to promote, advise and educate Clay County residents about preserving historical sites. Our congratulations to this year's recipients of the awards in two categories: 1. Long-term preservation and/or restoration of a structure by individuals or an organization. Award Recipients: Gordon Jensen, preservation of a 100-year-old barn on 457th Ave., near Wakonda, SD Dr. Jacob Quail, for leading the campaign to renovate a Vermillion historic marker donated by the Vermillion Rotary Club in 1966 2. Adding historic architectural elements to a historic building - This year it's porches.
