Date: Wednesday 8th February 2023 Speaker: Dr Andrew Woods In May 2020, two metal detectorists made an amazing discovery in a field near Ampleforth - four spectacular objects buried together some 1,800 years ago - The Ryedale Hoard. In this talk, Andrew will share the story of these significant artefacts from Roman Yorkshire. By looking at them in detail and drawing upon the Yorkshire Museum's wider Roman collections, he will explore their use and the mystery of their burial. He will then fast forward to the moment of their discovery and the Yorkshire Museum's subsequent acquisition, display and research plans.
