Western Digital had a flash focused event announcing new media and entertainment storage products as well as a new UFS drive, a corporate partnership to use ZNS SSDs for MySQL and new gaming SSDs.  Phison announced its controller, targeted at gaming SSDs for 176-layer replacement NAND flash.  ScaleFlux said that it will be using Micron QLC flash in its Computational Storage Drives. Western Digital has modified their product branding offering and created new products that serve the needed on creative media professionals.  In particular, they are offering their various storage solutions for media and entertainment professionals and creators under a SanDisk Professional line.  These include their G-Drives, formerly offered by the company’s G-Technology subsidiary.  The SanDisk Professional Line is shown below. The SanDisk Professional line features 16 modular workflow solutions with professional-grade performance and enterprise class reliability including their:·       PRO-CINEMA CFexpress VPG400 – An all-new professional-grade, rugged CFexpress® card for videographers and cinematographers needing superior, uninterrupted performance with video recording at a minimum of 400MB/s. The new card is expected to be available this summer.·       PRO-READER series – Four new PRO-READER devices that feature a USB-CTM interface that supports SuperSpeed USB 10Gbs. Designed to work with the most common camera media including CFastTM, CFexpress, RED Mini-Mag®, CF, microSDTM and SDTM cards. The series of PRO-READERS are expected to be available this summer.·       PRO-DOCK 4 – A new revolutionary 4-bay reader docking station that can bridge capture and ingest with a truly scalable offloading solution that saves critical time and money on multi-camera productions. The PRO-DOCK 4, expected to be available later this summer, enables up to four simultaneous card offloads.·       A new 4TB* G-DRIVE™ ArmorLock™ Encrypted NVMe™ SSD along with our trusted line up of G-DRIVE™ ultra-rugged portable drives, desktop devices featuring our enterprise-grade Ultrastar® drives, and G-RAID™ and G-RAID SHUTTLE transportable, enterprise-grade RAID solutions (now featuring both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C support).  These are high-capacity drives for everything from transfer to 100TB+* back up and archive for all types of mission-critical content. The broad range of new drives are expected to begin rolling out by early June. In addition to introducing the company’s SanDisk Professional storage, Western Digital also announced a new embedded flash JEDEC compliant Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 3.1 for mobile, automotive, IoT, AR/VR, drones and other emerging markets.  This new platform is expected to provide a 90% improvement in sequential write performance, compared to the previous generation product.  This expected to provide a better experience when consuming rich 8K media files and working with 5G and Wi-Fi 6 download speeds.
