PCMag recently interviewed Stanford Professor Henry T. Greely about accelerating biotechnologies that will—in the not-crazy-distant-future—allow prospective parents to (relatively easily and cheaply) choose the traits they want in their offspring. Professor Greely foresees affordable technologies that can transform skin cells into eggs and sperm and allow anyone to select embryos based on which traits they do or do not want. These technologies promise to rid the world of various debilitating genetic diseases and might even allow same-sex couples to produce offspring. Greely predicts that these technlogies will become so prevalent that in as early as 20 years, most humans (in rich nations) will no longer use sex as a means of procreation. It's a topic he tackles in his latest non-fiction book The End of Sex.
