Circle of Life… The sunrise yesterday morning was so peaceful as it reflected off the lake. The beauty in those moments are a wonderful reminder of how special nature really is. A little later, one of the eagles was busy grooming itself on the Lookout Snag. It was interesting to watch as they meticulously groomed those pure white tail feathers. Their precise movement seemed more like Jackie, perhaps getting all dolled up for her king. Before noon, Jackie delivered two sticks plus a big talonful of long dried straw which was added to the bowl as fluff. Then Jackie was chilling in the nest when Shadow made a couple of impressive fly-bys. As he circled the nest twice, she watched him quizzically as he entertained her with his aerial skills. After he landed, they did some nestorations before flying off. Shadow returned an hour later with a whole fish in his talons. He thought he might be able to sneak it to the nest and have a quiet lunch. He tried to open up the large fish with his beak but he heard Jackie coming in from the Cactus Snag calling dibs on the fish. Shadow answered back as he tried to hide it… too late! Jackie landed and immediately mantled, completely covering Shadow too with her right wing to protect her fish at his feet. Chaos ensued as they engaged in a spirited back ‘n forth over the prize. Jackie wanted it but Shadow seemed hungry and wanted it more. He won and gobbled it down in just five minutes! Jackie let that one go but she clearly was not happy about it. They moved on though, digging in the bowl together afterward and, of course, she searched for any leftovers. The next visit came before nightfall when Jackie returned and poked around while waiting for Shadow. She laid down to test the bowl with a brief pancake, then went to the front porch and called him a couple of times. He was likely already tucked in on a branch somewhere. Their goodnight chortles were heard just a few minutes after Jackie left.
