A look at the arcade games that were released in 1989! Another bumper year of some legendary classics! We saw the first entry in the Ninja Gaiden series as well as sequels in well known franchises such as Chase HQ (Special Chase Investigation) and R-Type (R-Type II). This year also graced us with Capcom's "Final Fight" and Konami's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Shoot'em ups were top shelf gaming with titles such as UN Squadron, Prehistoric Isle in 1930 and Gradius III appearing. Beat'em up fans were well served with Golden Axe and the afore mentioned TMNT. Run'n'gunners had Midnight Resistance and racers had Turbo Out Run. We even saw the first officially-licensed WWF game - and a large amount of baseball games. Big software houses like Capcom, Konami, Taito and Sega were competing with smaller companies like Jaleco, Toaplan, Technos - and with all of them producing high-quality content, it was the gamers that were winning. A standout year for arcade gaming and gaming in general! Interestingly, the Nintendo PlayChoice-10 machines (which was essentially an the 8-bit NES encased in an arcade cabinet) was joined by Sega's MegaTech line - which was essentially a MegaDrive (Genesis) encased in an arcade cabinet... And for those who are paying attention to the video - yes, there is a steam key hidden somewhere in the video. If you see it and claim it, please post a comment and let us know what it was!
