Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, SSO, have eliminated a platoon of North Korean soldiers in Russia’s border Kursk region, Ukrainian media reported on Thursday. Twenty-five North Korean soldiers were killed during the rapid engagement in the region. The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 6th Ranger Regiment of the Special Operations Forces of Ukrainian Armed Forces, the SSO wrote on Telegram app, and also shared the video of the assault. It’s yet to be verified when and exactly where the operation took place. The Special Operations Forces reported that eight Ukrainian rangers riding in an armored Humvee took up positions in trenches and initiated a firefight with the North Korean unit three times their size. Ukrainians were supported by drones during the attack. “Despite the numerical superiority of the enemy and heavy artillery fire, the SSO soldiers proved that quality beats quantity. They didn’t leave the entire DPRK platoon a chance during the engagement,” the Special Operations Forces reported. It added that the rangers withdrew from the area after completing the operation. Russia’s Kursk region has been one of the focal points of clashes as Kremlin has been seeking to return territories captured during surprise Ukrainian cross-border incursion last year. Russia announced earlier this month that its forces recaptured the second-largest village Oleshnya in Kursk.
