Sunset Photo Hike to White Rock Mountain in Vermont's Worcester Range

I hiked one of my favorite Vermont mountains on Sunday. White Rock Mountain in Middlesex has a gorgeous summit that’s perfect for photographing mountain landscapes. Many of the hikes I do here in the Green Mountain State have somewhat limited compositional options because it’s so heavily forested. A lot of the views I photograph lack strong foreground elements to help pull the viewer into the image. That’s not the case on White Rock. Not only are there 360-degree views, but the summit is surrounded by incredible ledges that offer endless compositional variations. Leading lines are everywhere you look. The forecast called for clearing skies, but I was delighted to see that many of the clouds stuck around, adding some much-needed drama. There was still some lingering haze from the Canadian wildfires, but the skies were much clearer than on my previous few hikes. The bugs were really bad in a few spots, but I came well prepared—and that was the only downside to an otherwise perfect day.
