The history of Azerbaijan as a state is approximately5000years old.The1st state bodies on the territory of Azerbaijan appeared in late4,000-early3,000BC.In1,000BC there existed Manna,Iskim, Skit,Scyth and such strong states as the Caucasian Albania and Atropatena.These states played a big role in strengthening the culture of government,in the history of economic culture of the country as well as in the uniform nation formation.In the3rd century AD Azerbaijan was occupied by the empire of Iranian Sasanids and in the7th century by Arabian Khalifat.The invaders populated the country with numerous Iranians and Arabs.With the introduction of Islamic religion in the7th century there occurred the important breakthrough in the history of Azerbaijan.Islam greatly facilitated the formation of uniform nation,language, customs and etc.among Turkic and not Turkic peoples on the territory of Azerbaijan.Armenia undertakes measures to illegally change the demographic, cultural and physical character of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan,thus gravely violating the relevant resolutions of the United Nations, the Geneva Conventions of1949and other applicable norms and principles of international humanitarian law.Over the period passed since the beginning of the conflict,tens of thousands settlers have moved to the occupied areas depopulated of their Azerbaijani inhabitants.Illegal activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan include also exploitation,plunder and illicit trade of assets,natural resources and other forms of wealth,permanent infrastructure development,extensive exploitation of agricultural and water resources,timber exporting,archaeological excavations,embezzlement of artefacts etc.The occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan has also had catastrophic consequences for the country’s cultural heritage both in the occupied territories and in Armenia.The occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and7adjacent districts of Azerbaijan(Kalbajar,Lachyn,Gubadly,Zangilan,Jabrayil,Fuzuli,Aghdam)as well as7 seven villages in the district of Gazakh and the village of Karki in Nakhchyvan,which are beyond the Nagorno-Karabakh region and situated on the border with Armenia, saw the destruction of927libraries, 22museums,808recreational venues,4theatres,2concert places8cultural parks,4art galleries and 85musical schools.Architectural monuments of national importance in those territories include the6th century Albanian Agoglan cloister and the14th century Malik Ajdar tomb in Lachyn, the4th century Albanian Amaras cloister and a considerable number of Albanian temples in Khojavand, the18th century Asgaran castle, fourteenth century tombs and a number of Albanian temples dating back to the Middle Ages in Khojaly,the6th century Albanian Saint Jacob and13th century Albanian Khatiravang cloisters and the13th-14th centuries Lekh castle in Kalbajar,the Albanian cloister of the fifth to eighth centuries .Since over30years, Armenia has continued to illegally occupy around20%of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory including the region of Nagorno-Karabakh and7surrounding districts.The entire territory of the invaded lands is almost13times the area of the City of Los Angeles or bigger than the U.S.State of Connecticut.Armenia carried out this medieval-style land grab in1991-94The invasion resulted in brutal massacres and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijani civilian population.More than800,000Azerbaijani civilians were forcibly expelled from their homes and land. Together with250,000Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia, the number of Azerbaijani refugees reached over1million.Today Azerbaijan has the largest number of refugees per capita in the world.Four U.N.Security Council resolutions adopted in1993condemned this invasion and ethnic cleansing, reaffirmed the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as demanded immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian occupying forces from all occupied regions.Unfortunately, these binding U.N.Security Council resolutions remain unfulfilled by Armenia.Following the invasion, Armenia established the so-called“Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”on the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.“NKR”is nothing more than a client regime of Armenia.The Nagorno-Karabakh region is an internationally recognized integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.Azerbaijan was admitted to the United Nations as a sovereign and independent state with the Nagorno-Karabakh region within its borders.The sovereignty, territorial integrity and borders of Azerbaijan have been recognized by all members of the international community.In fact,the USA has unequivocally stated on many occasions that it supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state.We call all international organizations to use their influence to condemn the aggression of the republic of Armenia launched on12.07.20during the global Pandemic,towards the Republic of Azerbaijan!
