In November last year I met up with friend/fellow YouTuber, @nzardoin and we went exploring abandoned tunnels and viaducts on the former Pittsburg & Shawmut's route which ran between Brookville and Kattanning. This route was once used to transport coal, but was abandoned around the turn of the century. According to what I've found, the last train to travel this route was back in January of 2000, with the line being removed sometime during 2005. That being said, this part of the line has been abandoned for over 20 years now. When Zack and I arrived at East Branch, we had to hike up an embankment in order to get up to the end. This also required us walking around barriers that were placed at the end of the bridge, which I think was mainly to keep ATV's from traveling across it. As we started out across the bridge, we noticed the ties and also the boards for the walkway have deteriorated overtime, and some planks are actually missing. The biggest issue for us was the high winds, as it not only made for a cold walk, but also was rather unsettling at times when it would almost knock you off your feet. When we got to the end, we found another barrier, which we were actually able to walk around. If you continued down the abandoned roadbed, you would eventually come to the Coulter Tunnel, which I've shown in a previous video. As Zack and I did not want to get caught walking on private property, we did not venture past the end of the viaduct and instead turned around to walk back across. Again, the biggest issue was the high winds, but we eventually made it back. Zack and I really enjoyed checking out the East Branch Viaduct and venturing along the old P&S route. In a way it's surprising that this structure is still standing, considering many viaducts were removed on the other P&S routes once they were abandoned. This is one of several viaducts on this route which is still there. Later on we also travel to the Sprankle Mills Viaduct, and I will leave a link to that video below once it becomes available.
