Proud and patriotic Fijians in Levuka came out in numbers to celebrate Fiji's 48th Independence Day. Celebrations in the old capital began with historic re-enactment of the deed of cession which was performed by the elders and students of Fiji’s first capital. Commissioner Eastern, Luke Moroivalu told the people of Ovalau that Fiji has come a long after more than four decades after independence we have every reason to celebrate the occasion. “As a nation we celebrate our unique existence together with our religious and cultural diversity, resembling a sense of unity and tolerance for one another which is a cornerstone for a strong multicultural society.”
