The City of London’s Jewish Geography || JR Issue Launch, Winter 2026

We delved into the history of Jewish life in the Square Mile, from a medieval cemetery under the Barbican to lives of current day City professionals. We were joined by Rabbi Shalom Morris, live from Bevis Marks, to discuss the new heritage centre and the Sephardi history of the area; historian Rory MacLellan, who explored medieval life in the shadow of the Tower of London; Jan-Marc Petroschka, architect and trustee of The Jewish Square Mile project, which he told us more about; and JR’s executive director Dr Aviva Dautch, who followed in the footsteps of Shakespeare to reveal how the playwright drew on the City’s Jewish presence to inform some of his most famous plays.
