This clip comes from a Hudson retail sales building slide show. In it, a spokesman talks about the differences between horsepower and torque, and why Hudson's late model flathead is superior to OHV V8 engines thanks to their low-end torque curve. In 1954 Hudson was struggling to sell cars and keep up with the big three makes. Historians point to their lack of styling updates, their promotion of a compact economy car (the Jet), and their lack of a V8 engine as seriously driving their decline. By the end of 1954, Hudson would merge with Nash to form American Motors.
